Introduction

The Druid is about the most versatile class in World of Warcraft

Druids make effective tanks, melee, casters, and healers. Their strength is their ability to change their shape as the situation warrants.

Learning to play a druid effectivly can be challenging. Their strengths are also their weaknesses, as the druid's versatility means learning all of the possible roles a druid can play. Despite this, the druid can specialize and do quite well in a limited role, such as healing.

For the druid, levelling is filled with challenges. The druid is expected to perform a difficult quest chain at level 10 in order to advance his or her fighting abilities by learning to take on the aspect of the mighty bear. This is followed by learning to cure poisons at level 14, and Aquatic Form at level 16.

Other abilites of druids include Cat Form, Travel Form, and Flight Form. At higher levels, druids who specialize in spell casting can gain Tree of Life Form (restoration) or Moonkin Form (balance).

As the druid levels, he or she must decide which role(s) to play. These roles are determined by the choice of talents the druid earns by levelling. Talents are organized into three "trees":

Restoration Druids specialize in the healing arts. Their primary spells are a series of Heal-over-Time spells (HOTs) such as Rejuvenation, Regrowth, and Lifebloom. They use Tree of Life Form to increase the potency of their healing spells.
Balance Druids specialize in fighting with spells. Their main spells include Wrath, Moonfire, Starfire, and Insect Swarm. Balance druids typically fight in Moonkin Form.
Feral Druids concentrate on improving their melee fighting abilities using animal forms. Bear Form allows the druid to take a lot of damage without dying (tank) while Cat Form lets the druid dish out a lot of damage in a hurry. Both forms have similar, but not identical, abilities, such as Fearie Fire, Charge, and Swipe.
